A weekly whole school assembly is led by the Rev. Teresa Munro, who is the Vicar of St. Michael’s Church in Playden and of All Saints Church in Iden. As a Church of England School, we value the opportunity to visit both of the churches in our parish and do so to celebrate Christmas, Easter and our July Leavers’ Service.
This year we gathered in St. Michael’s Church, Playden to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. This service was the culmination of a week-long celebration of Easter where the whole school had been on a journey of discovery, following Jesus’ story from Palm Sunday and his entry to Jerusalem, to his death on the cross. Parents joined us on this journey and enjoyed listening to a series of readings recounting the time from Jesus’ death to his resurrection. This was interspersed with wonderful songs celebrating the true meaning of Easter, ably accompanied by our Music Club with Rev. Christopher Breeds and his wife, Kay.

A wonderful traditional celebration of the birth of Jesus took place at Iden Church on 19th and 20th December. The whole school was involved in telling the Christmas story: staff narrated the story with bible readings, Key Stage two sang traditional carols whilst a tableau of the Nativity came to life on the altar, as Key Stage one and Reception children played significant roles. It was a joy to be part of and a fitting start to the Christmas holidays.

The Travelling Crib
Our school was proud to take part in the St. Michael’s, Playden travelling crib this year.
Mary and Joseph (2 dolls and a candle in a shoe box) started their journey to ‘Bethlehem’ from St Michael’s church on the first Sunday of Advent and then travelled from house to house until they ended up back at church for the family crib service on Christmas Eve. We welcomed Mary and Joseph on the 28th November to 1st December, 2016 – a lovely start to the Christmas season!

In addition, we gather every year to celebrate Harvest in our school hall to which all parents are invited. This year we had an outstanding turnout with extremely generous contributions which were distributed to Magdala House in Rye and the Rye Food Bank Centre. The Harvest celebration was led by Reverend Munro and we enjoyed contributions from the Monkeys – a Harvest song; Penguins – a Harvest acrostic; Meerkats – a vegetable fashion show and the Dolphins – the true meaning of Harvest. A wonderful celebration of thanksgiving was had by all.
