Collective worship is held daily at St Michael’s CE Primary School. Each week has a new focus and new music.
Throughout the year we focus (termly) on each of our Christian Values of Love, Honesty, Forgiveness and Respect. We do so through engagement with biblical teachings and topical stories which have a social, moral and spiritual focus We also spend time reflecting on significant times in the Christian calendar such as Harvest, Advent, Christmas, Pentecost, Lent and Easter.
Every week the children nominate a peer who has demonstrated one our Christian values. These value nominees are celebrated in our Friday Celebration worship and are displayed on our Christian Values board in the school hall.
We are a Picture News advocate school, as we regularly use this as a resource to support deeper reflective discussions in worship. It helps to equip and encourage children to be global citizens, building their own understanding of world events; thinking about their values and what is important to them; challenging ignorance and intolerance; developing an argument and voicing their opinions. The children explore British Values alongside the UN Rights of a Child during worship as they are reflective about their own beliefs, develop an interest in and respect for different people’s faiths, feelings and values and become empowered through this to engage in debate. The use of Picture News in this way contributes to the development of the child as a global citizen who is aware of the wider world and their place in it.
