As a Church of England School, we value the opportunity to visit both of the churches in our parish and do so to celebrate Christmas, Easter and our July Leavers’ Service.
School Christmas Service
Each year a traditional celebration of the birth of Jesus takes place at Iden Church in December. The whole school is involved in telling the Christmas story: staff narrate the story with bible readings, Key Stage two sing traditional carols whilst a tableau of the Nativity comes to life on the altar, as Key Stage one and Reception children play significant roles. It is a joy to be part of and a fitting start to the Christmas holidays.

The Travelling Crib
Our school proudly takes part in the St. Michael’s, Playden travelling crib each year.
Mary and Joseph (2 dolls and a candle in a shoe box) start their journey to ‘Bethlehem’ from St Michael’s church on the first Sunday of Advent and then travel from house to house until they end up back at church for the family crib service on Christmas Eve – a lovely start to the Christmas season!

Harvest
In addition, we gather every year to celebrate Harvest in our school hall to which all parents are invited. We always have an outstanding turnout with extremely generous contributions which are distributed to Magdala House in Rye and the Rye Food Bank Centre. The Harvest celebration is led by Reverend Munro and we enjoy contributions from all the classes.

Easter Service
Each year we gather in St. Michael’s Church, Playden to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. This service maps Jesus’ story from Palm Sunday and his entry to Jerusalem, to his death on the cross and his resurrection thereafter. Parent are invited to the church to join us on this journey where they enjoy listening to a series of readings recounting this part of Jesus’ life. The story is interspersed with wonderful songs celebrating the true meaning of Easter.
